Barry Jay
Potts
Apr 15, 1950 — Sep 9, 2026
Friona
Barry Jay Potts was born April 15, 1950, in Friona, Texas, to Cordie and Helen Potts. He passed away September 9, 2026, at the age of 76.
Jay grew up in the Rhea community and graduated from Friona High School in 1968. He attended South Plains Junior College before continuing his education at Oklahoma State University, where he earned a degree in Agricultural Economics and was a member of the roping team.
Jay married Krita Morris in May of 1971. Following college, Jay and Krita returned to the Rhea community and the family farm, where they raised their three children. Jay spent his career farming and was especially good with numbers.
Jay enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. Although he often said he "wasn't a people person," he loved to laugh, tell stories, and entertain those around him. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a way of making people smile. He loved his family and often showed it best through the things he did for them.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Cordie and Helen Potts; his sister, Marilyn Moore; and his brother, Larry Potts.
Jay is survived by his wife, Krita, and their three children: Nicole and husband Troy Talley of Lubbock, Texas, and their children, Tyler and wife Tori, Carly, and Emma; Kyle and wife Erika Potts of Texico, New Mexico, and their children, Morgan, Riley, and Colton; and Ryan and wife Crystal Potts of Farwell, Texas, and their children, Brayden, Corbin, and Dustin. He is also survived by his great-granddaughters, Jeffie and Bonnie Talley.
A celebration of Jay's life will be held at a future date. Memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church in Bovina, TX.
