Billy Joe Mercer, 84 of Friona died Wednesday, November 25 in Friona. Funeral Services have been scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Monday November 30, 2015 at the Friona United Methodist Church in Friona with Rev. Skip Hodges, pastor, and Rev. H.E. "Steve" Stephens of Amarillo, officiating. Burial following in the Friona Cemetery by Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home of Friona. Mr. Mercer was born September 8, 1931 in Clovis, New, Mexico to Charles Lloyd and Edith Mae Bomar Mercer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict, he married Tommie Ruth Martin on September 3, 1955 in Friona where he was a dedicated, longtime area farmer. He was honored to be the Friona Man of the Year in 2004 and was President of the Friona Sr. Citizens from 2002 to 2004. He loved helping the elderly. He is preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother-Robert E. Mercer. He is survived by his wife, Tommie of Friona, 1 daughter Leesa Stephens and husband H.E. "Steve" Stephens of Amarillo, 1 son-Tim Mercer and wife Cari of Coppell, Texas, 5 grandchildren-Hannah Patton and husband Larry of Corpus Christi, H.E."Trey" Stephens III of New Orleans, Taylor Mercer and husband Alex Bedford of London, England, Garik Mercer of Norman, Ok., and Dillon Mercer of Lubbock, and 6 great-grandchildren.
