Obituary

Carolyn Ann Dement, 78 of Friona went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday February 18, 2025. Viewing will be held from 9:00 AM to 8PM with family visitation time from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, February 21, 2025 in the Ron Smiley Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Celebration of Life Graveside Services set for 11:00 AM Saturday, February 22, 2025 in the Friona Cemetery with Wes Drake, officiating. Burial following in the Friona Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

Carolyn was born on September 11, 1946 to Rufus and Myrtle Nunn Melton, in Clarksville Texas, Red River County. Carolyn moved to Friona in 1963 with her family, where she met the love of her life "Tuffy" Dement and married him on December 28,1964 before graduating from Friona High School in 1965.  Carolyn retired from Friona Interbank where she worked for countless years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Friona, where she also helped with their food ministry. Carolyn loved to sew and paint.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, H.T. (Tuffy) Dement, parents Rufus Floyd Melton and Annie Myrtle (Nunn) Melton, brother Ronald Floyd Melton, and sister Judy Lynn (Melton) Martin.

Carolyn leaves behind many beloved family members including her daughters Carol (Terry) McDowell of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Sheryl (Alvin) Mercer of Bay City, Texas, brother Doyle (Patty) Melton of Moore, OK, sister Gail (Jim) Blouch of Catoosa, OK and brother-in-law Larry (Jeannie) Martin of Friona. She leaves behind four grandsons, Heath (Courtney) McDowell of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Eric (Marlayna) McDowell of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Chance (Kailey) Layton of Brooklyn, New York and Bradly Bartels of Jacksonville, Florida three Great Grandchildren Jakobey, Haylee and Amelia McDowell of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and many nieces and nephews that she treasured dearly.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the West Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz,org or a favorite charity.
