C atarino was born on April 15, 1933 in Goldfinch, Texas to Julian and Sofia Ramón. He spent his young life in Pearsall, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Irene Peña. He married Irene on June 26, 1953. Catarino and Irene were blessed with 6 children, Ralph, Miguel, Miroslava, Anthony, Annette, and Jesse. They moved to Bovina, Texas in 1969 where they owned their own business. He later established his trucking business where he worked until he retired. He raised his family in a Catholic household and loved to spend time with them. When he wasn't with his family he loved going to the horse races. Catarino loved to spend time outside mastering the art of small-time inventions to make his life easier. He was authentic; there was no one else like him. His hugs were warm, loving, and protective all in one. The family says, "God gave us the perfect father and grandfather. He was a genuine person, humble and understanding, calm and loving. He enjoyed company, and joy shined through him in the form of a smile the moment he saw one of his children. Dad brought a sense of peace to our life simply by sitting silently on the front porch with him."
