Derek Wayne Davila entered eternal rest on Monday, September 29, 2025, at the age of 37. Viewing will be held from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM with Rosary Services at 6:00 PM Friday October 3, 2025 at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Friona with Mass of Christian Burial Services set for 9:30 AM Saturday October 4, 2025 at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Friona with Father Nick Gerber as Celebrant. Burial following entrusted to HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

Derek was born in Hereford, Texas to David and Beth Davila, he was raised in Parmer County and proudly carried the spirit and heart of a true farm boy throughout his life.

From a young age, Derek was full of energy, curiosity, and charm. With a mischievous grin and a sparkle in his eye, he was known for speaking his mind and lighting up every room he entered. He was baptized on April 6, 1996, and made his Holy Sacrament of Confirmation just one week later, on April 14, 1996.

As a child, Derek was active and adventurous from the start. He participated in Boy Scouts, played tee ball, baseball, and football, and attended Friona schools, graduating with the Class of 2006. One of his proudest (and most humorous) achievements was running and winning the "Fat Man Race" in high school, where he took home first place and a bucket of chicken.

Following graduation, Derek pursued a higher calling and enlisted in the United States Navy. He completed basic training and proudly graduated from the Naval Station Great Lakes Naval Academy in Chicago, Illinois on November 3, 2006.

After his military service, Derek explored various career paths, searching for where he truly belonged. Derek found his calling in the fields. He loved working the land, caring for the animals, and putting in the long hours that come with a life rooted in agriculture. Farming wasn't just work to him, it was a way of life, a reflection of his steady hands, wild but patient spirit, and respect for nature's rhythm. On the farm he found a sense of purpose, belonging, and peace working for Mitchell Wiseman, where he remained dedicated until his passing.

Derek's heart also held a restless spark, one that carried him beyond the fields and into the open road. He was an adventurer at his core, never shying away from thrill or challenge. Whether it was riding his motorcycle, tearing across the countryside in a Can-Am, or finding the next rush of excitement, Derek lived life with fearless enthusiasm and a smile that said he was exactly where he wanted to be. He lived life to the fullest and encouraged others to do the same.

Derek is preceded in death by his beloved Little Grandma Maria Davila, his Grandpa Nick Manzanares, and his dear Tía Dee Dee Davila.

He is survived by the love of his life, Michelle, and his cherished children: Dre, Derek Jr., Reagan, Scarlett, Myrna, Serenity, Daniel, Diego, and Sophia. He also leaves behind his devoted parents, David and Beth Davila of Friona; his siblings: Joe Bob Orozco (Evelyn) of Friona, Cassandra Hutcherson (Will) of Normangee, David Davila III (Laura) of Pflugerville, Erica Crum (James) of Amarillo, and Samantha Davila (Justin) of Austin.

He will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews: Marcus, Julius, Mia, and Nico Orozco; Alexis, Bryanna, Thomas, and Roxy Hutcherson; Liah Davila; Boston Crum, Jeremiah Davila, Naivia Sintas, Eli Sintas, and Axel Crum, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.

Derek's legacy is one of boldness, loyalty, humor, and heart. He will be remembered for his enormous laugh, sweet smile, adventurous soul, and continual love for his family and friends.
