Bovina, Texas Ellen Estes, 93 of Bovina died Saturday May 5, 2012 in Spearman. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday May 11, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church of Bovina with Rev. Larry Mitchell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Bovina Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home of Friona. Ellen was born April 16, 1919 in Tangier, Oklahoma. She moved to Bovina in 1926. She married Samuel Vernon Estes on November 18, 1939. As a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bovina, Ellen taught Bible class, was the pianist, and was a member of United Methodist Women. She was a teacher for several years in Bovina and Farwell. She then taught preschool children English as a second language. Ellen was named Bovina Woman of The Year, 1971. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers, 1 sister and 1 son-in-law, Dick Dobbs. Survivors include 3 daughters, Nita Beth Dobbs of Clovis, N.M. , Verna Marie Strawn and husband Bill of Spearman, and Linda Marshall and husband Bubby of Bovina, 8 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
