Family and friends celebrate the life of Eva Kimbrough, 87 of Friona, by giving honor to Jesus Christ, whom she met face to face on Thursday August 23, 2012. Eva says her greatest joy was in knowing Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and seeing God answer prayers and work miracles. Family Visitation will be held 6 to 8P.M. Sunday August 26, 2012 at Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home in Friona. Celebration Of Life Services have been scheduled for 10:30A.M. Monday August 27, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church in Friona with Rev. Rick Burton, pastor, and family officiating. Burial following in the Friona Cemetery by Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home. Eva was born in Walters, Oklahoma to Homer A. and Lula Mae (Greer) Hyde. At age five, the family moved to a farm outside Friona, TX, where Eva attended school, graduating from Friona High School in 1943. Eva married Don Kimbrough on April 20, 1944. One week later, Don was deported to Europe to serve as a paratrooper for two years in WWII. (Don always joked that he went on their honeymoon to Europe while Eva went to college.) After the war, Don joined Eva to study at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, where both daughters were born, then moved to Fort Worth, TX, to study at SW Baptist Theological Seminary. After seminary, Don & Eva were called to pastor churches in Oklahoma, where their four sons were born, before moving to Tacoma, WA, to pastor Parkland Baptist Church for eleven years. Altogether, Eva and Don served eight churches in Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and Washington. Eva spoke of the special events in her life as: living with Don (her wonderful husband of over 66 years), working for the Lord with dear friends, and spending time with family. Eva calls her birthday especially blessed, the day on which she dedicated her life to Christ at age 16 and the day when the Lord showered her with love each time another child was born, including one daughter, granddaughter, and two great grandchildren. Using her talents to serve by her husband's side, Eva played the piano and organ, illustrated Don's sermons through Chalk Talk presentations, taught Sunday School, and directed Girl's Auxiliary and Women's Missionary Union while raising children and serving as a homemaker. Eva was known for amazing murals and backdrops that she painted for conferences in the Northwest Baptist Convention of Oregon, Washington, Northern Idaho, and Canada. Don and Eva enjoyed their retirement years in Friona with wonderful friends, as they participated in various church and community events. Eva was active in WMU, Friona Art League, Calvary Baptist Church, Senior Center, and more. Between birth and eternity, Eva lived a godly life that blessed a multitude of people. Eva was truly the joy of Don's life; her children rise and call her blessed! Eva is survived by her six children: Sharolyn Cline of Friona; Diane Sandoval of Albuquerque; Max kimbrough of Springfield, MO; Kip Kimbrough of Friona; Tip Kimbrough of Lumberton, TX; and Cris Kimbrough of Asheville, NC, as well as 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, her brother Truell Hyde, of Big Spring, TX, sisters-in-law Marcia Rebhuhn, and husband Dean, of Woodinville, WA, and Neva Hyde, of Tacoma, WA.
