Genevieve Ezell a longtime resident of the Bovina area passed away in Austin on Thursday August 2, 2018 at 101 years of age. Celebration of Life Graveside Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the Bovina Cemetery in Bovina with Rev. Dick Horn of Austin and Rev. Larry Mitchell of Bovina, officiating. Burial following in the Bovina Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.
Mrs. Ezell the daughter of Gottfried and Eva Bender was born near Shattuck, Oklahoma on April 30, 1917 the eighth of nine children all of whom proceeded her in death. She moved to the Bovina area at the age of 16 and graduated from Bovina High School in 1936 where she was active in sports and excelled in basketball.
Genevieve married Gene Ezell on February 20, 1937. They made their home in Bovina and resided in the Bovina area for 85 years..
They lived through the stock market crash of '29, the great depression following and the dust bowl days of '35. They both loved traveling while touring all 50 states, 26 different countries, all but one continent as well as 7 trips to Japan.
Genevieve attended the Methodist Church in Bovina for 77 years and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Shattuck.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, her 5 sisters,3 brothers and one nephew.
She is survived by son Larry and wife Irene of Mullin, TX, daughter Joan Kay Horn and Husband Dick Horn of Austin, TX, son Roger and wife Judy of Buena Vista, Colorado. Along with 6 grandchildren Angela Taylor of Lubbock, Larry Ezell,Jr and wife Shannon of Lubbock, Leslie Guy Ezell of Mullin, TX, Richard Horn and wife Debbie of Austin, TX, Tim Horn and wife Marie of Boston, Massachusetts, and Steven Horn and wife Debra of Salem, Oregon. 9 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren along with a loving niece Barbara Charles of Lubbock along with many other nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be at the funeral home from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 7, 2018. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bovina United Methodist Church 204 4 th St. Bovina, Texas 79009 or Hospice Austin 4107 Spicewood Springs Road, Suite 100 Austin, Texas 78759
