Jose "Joe" Olvera, 65 of Bovina passed away September 5, 2022 in Amarillo. Viewing will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM with Rosary Services at 7:00 PM Thursday, September 8, 2022 in the Ron Smiley Memorial Chapel of HANSARD FAMILY with Mass of Christian Burial Services set for 10:00 AM Friday, September 9, 2022 at St, Ann's Catholic Church of Bovina with Deacon Michael Anzaldua of Dalhart, and Father Gregory Bunyan as Celebrants. Burial following in the Bovina Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.
Joe was born September 7, 1956 in Friona, to Elva Hernandez. He later married Celeste Flores June 9, 1979 in Texico, NM.
Joe was a very hard worker and was employed by the Bovina Supermarket for many years first as a butcher and then as a manager. He also was employed by Prairie Acres Nursing Home in Friona, a Clovis care center and Advanced Auto Parts also in Clovis.
Joe is a past member of the Bovina City Council and Bovina Volunteer Fire Department. He was very active in the Bovina Little League as an umpire and coach. In his younger days Joe loved to play racquetball and baseball and in his latter days, fishing, walking and watching TV.
Those preceding him in death include his mother Elva, and 1 brother-Robert Olvera.
Those to carry on his legacy include his wife Celeste Olvera of Bovina, 3 sons- Joseph Olvera and wife Sabrina of Bovina, Mike Olvera and wife Elida of Dalhart, and Jason Olvera and wife Janey of Bovina, 8 grandchildren-Matthew, Sophia, Edgar, Jacob, Natalie, Miranda, Noah, and Asuna, and 1 great-granddaughter-Kamila.
