Viewing will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Thursday May 14, 2026 in the Ron Smiley Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with more viewing beginning at 11:00 AM Friday May 15, 2026 with Rosary Services at 6:00 PM at St. Ann's Catholic Church of Bovina. Mass of Christian Burial Services are set for 10:00 AM Saturday, May 16, 2026 at St. Ann's Catholic Church of Bovina with Father Nick Gerber as Celebrant with burial following in the Bovina Cemetery in Bovina entrusted to HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.
Pepe entered this world on November 11, 1944, in Pearsall, Texas, to Manuel and Juanita (Trevino) Peña. On July 15, 1962, he married the love of his life, Nancy Rodriguez. They tied the knot in Springlake/Earth, TX, and that was the start of an absolutely incredible journey together.
They didn't just build a home; they built a whole legacy. Pepe and Nancy raised five amazing children, and they later took five of their grandchildren under their wing, nurturing them as their own. His love just kept multiplying, resulting in an enormous and vibrant family tree that now proudly includes 24 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, and even 27 great-great-grandchildren. Each one is a testament to the boundless love and solid values he instilled.
He worked in agriculture as a farm labor contractor for all his life. Long hours and enduring the elements but he never complained. He encouraged his employees to go an extra round to get the job done. He was a hard working man and loved what he did and the people he worked with, building lifelong friendships along the way.
When he wasn't busy, you knew where to find him: He loved watching football, from the Bovina Mustangs up to his beloved Dallas Cowboys during a thrilling football game, or, even better, just soaking up precious moments with his ever-expanding family. His grandkids, especially, held a super special place in his heart, and he absolutely cherished every chance to share a laugh and create lasting memories with them.
Pepe was truly one of a kind. He had a fantastic quick wit and a laugh that was absolutely infectious. He was famous for his playful sarcasm and good-natured teasing, always ready with a joke to brighten anyone's day. He just had that knack for making everyone around him smile.
It's really tough to imagine life without him. He was such a selfless man, and his huge heart beat strongest for his family above all else. While we're all feeling this immense void, we're also incredibly determined to honor his memory by carrying forward the beautiful legacy of love, hard work, and devotion that he so wonderfully established for us all.
On behalf of his wife, Nancy, son Jose Pena, Jr, daughter Rosemary Monzon (Cesar), daughter Belma Ruiz (Robert), daughter Elizabeth Pena, daughter Josie Peña, and grandchildren, we would like to thank everyone for the kind words, prayers, and visits.
