JT Hammonds, 99 of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, formerly of Bovina passed away January 31, 2018. Celebration of Life Memorial Services have been scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Bovina United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Mitchell, pastor, officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Bovina Cemetery by the Hansard Family of Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home of Friona.
Mr. Hammonds was born February 13, 1918 in Chillicothe, Texas to Oma Looney Dorsey. He later served in the United States Navy during WWII and married Myrna Hester in Bovina.
JT was a farmer and sold seed to other farmers. He also owned a Phillips 66 service station in Bovina. He built his own sail boat and made model airplanes. He loved to play softball and getting together with friends over a cup of coffee. He was a great public speaker and spoke at many churches as well as teaching an adult Sunday school class at the Bovina United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father and was a jovial man that loved life.
He is preceded in death by his mother Oma and wife Myrna.
Those to carry on his legacy are his daughter-Carole Lynn Boguslawski and husband Joe of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, 2 grandchildren-Amber Larson and husband Karl of Chelsea, Alabama, and Dustin Dodson of Denver, Colorado, 2 great-grandchildren-Chelsea Larson of Lawrence, Kansas and Wyatt Larson of St. Louis, Missouri.
