Obituary

Judy Cummings, formerly of Friona, Texas, passed away on June 15, 2018 at Garland Serenity Home in Garland, Texas. Viewing will be from 1 PM until 8 PM Sunday, June 17 th at HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home in Friona.  Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 18 th at 6 th Street Church of Christ in Friona, Texas with Jeff Procter, minister, officiating. Burial will follow at Friona Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

Ruby Jewell Cassady was born in Quitaque, Texas on August 8, 1926 to the parentage of Carey A. and Emma Simeon Smith Cassady. She graduated from Farwell High School in 1943. She married Marvin Doyle Cummings on September 22, 1945 and they established their home in Friona, Texas. She was honored to be a "stay-at-home mom" until 1964 when she became the receptionist at Cummings Farm Store in Friona. Later, she became a New York Life insurance agent and served the needs of community members until 2011. She served several terms as president of the Underwriters Association. Judy served her church and community with roles such as VBS teacher, PTA president, scout den leader, historical society, cemetery association, art association and enjoyed teaching Friona school children about her days working for the railroad. She enjoyed oil painting and taking as many pictures as possible of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as beautiful scenery from many trips to the Sangre de Cristo mountains in New Mexico. She saw beauty all around her in nature and the faces of family and friends.

Judy is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Doyle Cummings, parents Carey A. and Emma Cassady, brothers R.A. Cassady and Phil Cassady, sister Dorothy Pruitt, sisters-in-law Marcella Cassady, Rose Cassady and Sue Stark Hallmark, brothers-in-law John Pruitt and Wayne B. Stark, parents-in-law Ennis and Jewell Cummings, nephew Carey Cassady, and grandson, Toby Ferguson.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses including Scott and Donna Cummings of Lubbock, Kirk and Karen Cummings of Rio Vista, Texas, Booney and Lisa Gonzales of Azle, Texas and Gary and Terri Zerfas of Rockwall, Texas. She is survived by seven grandchildren including Kyle Cummings and wife, Brandi of Wimberly, Texas, Joe Ferguson and wife, Kristen, of Plano, Texas, Brent Bumpas and wife, Shannon, of Forney, Texas, John-Paul Gonzales and wife, Shae, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Elana Novali and fiancé, Timothy Bell of Mayer, Arizona, Eli Gonzales and fiancé, Terrilynn LeNoir of Alvarado, Texas, Jake Zerfas and wife, Holly, of Rockwall, Texas and Cassie Gonzales of Azle, Texas. She is also survived by sixteen great-grandchildren including Zack, Kaden and Rylan Cummings, Connor and Corrie Ferguson, Ethan, Dylan and Beckham Bumpas, Kadence Latham, Laken Gonzales, Abigail Gonzales, Gabriel Evans, Ashton Clarke, Payton Sullivan, Paige Floutin, and Adelyn Zerfas. She is survived by one sister, Beverly Gamble and husband Robert, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren including Kyle Cummings, Brent Bumpas, John-Paul Gonzales, Elana Novali, Eli Gonzales, Jake Zerfas, and Cassie Gonzales.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.

The family of Judy Cummings expresses deep gratitude to the owners and staff of Garland Serenity Home where Judy moved in June 2017. She was treated with the utmost in physical care in a beautiful home setting. More importantly, her caretakers loved her every day and welcomed our family at any time. Thank you to the owners, Aaron and Adela Floarea, Haydee Simental, Narcis and Ruxi Badea, Dan and Nicole Manoila, Stacey and Francine Pence. And thank you to John Alagood for his assistance in locating Garland Serenity Home.
