Kenneth Leo McLellan ,76 of Friona died Thursday June 14, 2012 in Friona. Funeral Services have been scheduled for Sat.June16, 2012 at 2:00P.M. at Friona United Methodist Church with Rev. Kurt Borden officiating. Burial following in the Friona Cemetery by Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home of Friona. Kenneth was born November 24, 1935 in Friona to Stelma Leo and Lillian Boatman McLellan. He lived in Friona all of his life. Kenneth attended Texas Tech one semester. After returning to Friona to take on the family farming operation he met Elizabeth Grubbs and they were married June 17, 1956. They have lived in the same house on the family farm for 56 years. Kenneth better known as Ken to his drag racing buddies was active in NHRA Drag Racing for many years. The highlight of his racing career was being crowned NHRA World Champion in 1971 in his famous Ford Mustang. Ken was inducted into the Division 4 NHRA Hall of Fame in 1985. Ken stayed in touch with several of his racing friends throughout his life. Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Ann of Friona, two sons Ronnie McLellan of Amarillo , Clifford & wife Pam of Lubbock and daughter Becky Mays of Friona. Four grandchildren LaFawnda Kubacak & husband Anthony, Raelye & Brady McLellan of Lubbock and Michael McLellan of Denver Co.and one great grandson Brennon Kubacak of Lubbock. Also, one sister Betty Louise Rector and one brother Joe McLellan both of Friona. He was preceeded in death by his parents and a sister Doris McLellan.
