Lois Agnes Smith Miller, 101 of Friona died October 21, 2016 in Friona. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday October 24, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Friona with Rev. Brett Hoyle, pastor, officiating. Burial following in the Rest Lawn Cemetery in Hereford by Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home of Friona.
Lois was born April 5, 1915 in the Progressive Community of Deaf Smith County to Lewis and Bessie Smith. She attended schools at Askren, Dawn, and Hereford, and graduated from WTSU in 1962.
Lois taught fourth grade at Friona ISD for 23 years and in Baptist Sunday School classes for over 50 years. While living at Dawn, she served as President of Women's Club, Music Club, and Women Missionary Union. After moving to Friona, she became president of Friona Classroom Teachers, Modern Study Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, and WMU at First Baptist Church. An avid reader, Lois helped establish the first library and bookmobile in Friona.
Throughout her life, Lois read the Bible, sang hymns, and quoted scripture. She often inspired family members by reciting the entire Christmas story from the book of Luke and by continuously praying for others. She loved to attend church and was present there even on the Sunday prior to her death.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman Miller, 3 sisters-Syble Hewitt, Ella Weeter and Sarah Poe.
She is survived by 2 sons-Bob Miller and wife Carolyn of Amarillo, and Bill Miller of Friona, 2 daughters-Lucy Beth Hinkle of Friona, and Gail Turner and husband Richard of New Braunfels, 1 sister Doris Johnson of Hereford, 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Faith City Mission 401 Second Avenue Amarillo, Texas 79101 or First Baptist Church 404 5th St. Friona, Texas 79035.
