Viewing for Lucy Beth Hinkle, 80, of Friona will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, August 12, 2021 in the Ron Smiley Memorial Chapel of HANSARD FAMILY with Celebration of Life Funeral Services set for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 13, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Friona with Rev. Brett Hoyle, Pastor, officiating.  Burial following in the Friona Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.  Her faith in her beloved Savior became sight when she left this earth on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Prairie Acres Nursing Home in Friona.

She was born at Deaf Smith County Hospital in the midst of a "blackout" by the light of flashlights November 25, 1940 in Hereford, Texas to Norman and Lois Smith Miller. She attended grade school in Dawn, Texas and then High School in Hereford, Texas where she graduated in 1959.  She moved to Friona in 1962 as a new graduate from Hendricks School of Nursing in Abilene, Texas and served as a Registered Nurse at Parmer County Community Hospital for over a year, later serving as a nurse in Canyon, Texas, Lawton, Oklahoma, and then again in Friona.

On October 3, 1964, she married the love of her life, Jerry Dean Hinkle also of Friona.  They faithfully loved each other and partnered in life together until his death in 2009. She gave birth to three children: Jeffrey Brent, Wendy Renae, and Jerry Wade.

Lucy Beth was truly a servant leader and one that well represented the God she worshipped, the family she loved, the church she attended, the town she lived in, and the nation that allowed her the freedom to "go about doing good for others".

Her church activities were numerous including teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Team Kids, going on numerous mission trips, and directing children's choirs.  She played the piano for more than 40 years at First Baptist Church and was also active in the church choir. She was a generous supporter of many charities including Faith City Mission, Samaritan's Purse, and YWAM.

Her community service included service with Meals on Wheels, as an election clerk during local elections, and on the Board of Directors at Prairie Acres from 1987 to 1995.  She helped fix hair for many residents of Prairie Acres over the years and read the Bible to residents of Heritage Estates.  She read to preschool children during "Story Hour" at the local library and served as Room Mother, Class Sponsor, Booster Club member, and all-around fan for many sports, music and other extra-curricular activities. She was recognized as the Friona Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year in 2006.

Lucy Beth participated in Community Choirs and the Living Christmas Tree.  She has played the piano for numerous weddings, funerals and Thespian plays.  She taught piano lessons for over 20 years to many young students.

For about 25 years, she prepared a Christmas Dinner for widows in the community.  She hosted many parties and celebrations for friends and families, bridge parties, and an annual New Year's Eve game night for friends for many years

Family was always tremendously important to Lucy Beth and was seldom happier than when visiting her children, grandchildren or having them as special guests at home.  For the last 27 years, so many precious memories have been made with grandchildren who were always treated as royalty with many traditions including crafts, reading, road trips, games, puzzles, hugs, and always lots of great home cooked favorite meals.  She was a devoted daughter providing care and support for her mother until her passing at 101.

She was known for kindness and anyone she was around always felt as if they were the most important person in the world.  Her kindness, generosity, hospitality, and selflessness were always apparent.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a brother Bob (wife Carolyn) of Amarillo, a sister Gail (husband Richard) of New Braunfels and a second brother Bill of Friona; a son Brent of Friona, a daughter Wendy (husband J.B.) of Colorado Springs, and a second son Wade (wife Rebekah) of Burleson; nine grandchildren, Bethany, Brooke, Morgan, Landry, Faith, Abby, Grant, Gage and Claire.  Also a nephew Michael Turner, and two nieces, M'Lynn Miller and Michelle Manjen; and one great-grandchild Zoe.
