Obituary

Lula Belle Johnson, 90 of Carmichael, California passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025 with her family by her side. Celebration of Life Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the Bovina Cemetery in Bovina. Burial following in the Bovina Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

Lula was born on March 15, 1934, in Childress, Texas, to Walter and Canard Childers. Due to a home delivery and delayed filing, her birth was officially recorded as March 13, 1934.

In 1963, Lula moved from Texas to Fair Oaks, California, where she made her home for many years. In September 2022, she relocated to Carmichael, California, to live with her daughter, Donna Flores.

Lula was a vibrant, hardworking woman with a lifelong passion for creativity. She spent many years working as a seamstress and realtor from home before pursuing a career in healthcare, earning her LVN and later becoming a registered nurse. Outside of her professional achievements, she enjoyed crafting, tending to her flower garden, and painting. Her beautifully decorated gourds and treasured paintings were a testament to her artistic talent and the love she poured into her creations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Johnson; son, Steven Walling; sister, LaVerne Wallace; and son-in-law, David Flores; and her faithful dog, Patty, who was by her side for 15 years.

Lula is survived by her loving family:

• Daughters: Rebecca Heddlesten (Nelson) of Fort Towson, OK, and Donna Flores of Carmichael, CA

• Son: Haden Walling (Lou Ann) of Bovina, TX

• Stepson: Robin Johnson (Kristy Robey) of Kerrville, TX

• Grandchildren: Andrea Flores-Warren (Nick), Tyler Walling (Beth), Erin Harkey (Kevin),

• Great-grandchildren: Chloe Dormody (Justin), Evan Cisneros, Gabriel and Alex Walling,

Kagen Murphy, Lowen Harkey, Kevin and Adam Warren, Sampson and Raylan Flores

• Great-great-grandchild: Dylan Dormody

• Sister: Merlene Richardson

• Many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members

Lula's family and friends will forever cherish the love, wisdom, and creativity she shared throughout her life. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.
