Obituary

M.H. (Shorty) Carson, 89 of Bovina died Saturday, August 16th in Bovina. Funeral Services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 22, at the First Baptist Church of Bovina with Rev. Gene Hawkins and Rev. Brian Mullins officiating. Interment with military and masonic honors following in the Bovina Cemetery. Arrangements by Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home of Friona. Family and friends are then invited to gather at Bovina's XIT Recreation Center afterword for a celebration of Mr. Carson's life. M.H. was born December 15, 1924 in Donley County, TX near Clarendon to M.C. and Gertrude Nunley Carson. He graduated from Central High School, near Marlow, OK in 1942, moving to Bovina shortly thereafter to work for his uncle, Fred Carson. Mr. Carson served in the Army 32nd Infantry Regiment in WWII as scout for his unit in Okinawa. Following the war, Mr. Carson returned to Marlow and married Dixie Lee Malcom on January 31, 1947 and moved to Parmer County. He was a longtime Bovina area farmer-stockman, serving as board member for several organizations including the Bovina School District, West Texas Rural Telephone, Bovina Roping Club, and the Farmers' Cooperative. A longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Bovina, Mr. Carson was also a 32nd Degree Master Mason and Master of the Farwell Lodge three separate occasions, recently earning his 60 year service pin. He enjoyed raising and racing horses and Charolais cattle, hunting, and having fun with family and friends. Mr. Carson was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Gary Stephen Carson in 2008. Survivors include his wife, Dixie of Bovina, 3 sons- Richard Lynn Carson of Bovina, Alan Dale Carson and wife Casey of Clovis, Galen Charles Carson and wife Pam of Concordia, Missouri, 1 daughter- Joan Carol Carson Strawn and husband, Mike of Cedar Park, TX. 12 grandchildren-grandchildren- Jared and Erin Carson (Gary's), Chrysta and Cody Carson (Alan's), Michael Carson and Kristin Carson Arko, Joel, Justin, Josh, Jacob, and Jarod Moenkhoff (Galen's) and Caleb Strawn (Joan's), and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday August 21 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to: Bluebonnet Home Health and Hospice 304 East 11th St. Friona, Texas 79035
