Matilde Fernandez, 76 of Bovina passed away March 28, 2021 in Bovina. Viewing will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 30, 2021 with Rosary Services set for 6:00 P.M. in the Ron Smiley Memorial Chapel of HANSARD FAMILY with Mass of Christian Burial Services scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bovina with Father Gregory Bunyan as Celebrant. Burial following in the Bovina Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

Matilde was born June 24, 1944 in Cuencame Oriente Durango, Mexico to Anacleto and Agustina Salas Fernandez. She later married Jesus Sanchez Lopez April 16, 1961 in Mexico.

She moved from Mexico to Bovina in 2007 to help take care of her grandchildren after the death of their mother. She loved helping her family and others, and was an active member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bovina. Matilde loved her morning coffee, and tending to her goats.

She is preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers-Francisco, Jesus, Eduviges, and Ubaldo, 5 sisters-Altagracia, Maria, Juventina, Lidia, and Carmen.

Those to carry on her legacy include 2 daughters-Maria Elizabeth Rojas and family of Bovina, and Genoveva Sanchez and family of Clovis, 6 sons-Jesus Sanchez and family of Clovis, Rafael Sanchez and family of Bovina, Fernando Sanchez and family of California, Alfredo Sanchez and family of Bovina, Martin Sanchez and family of Durango, Mexico, and Eddy Armando Sanchez and family of Clovis.
