Nancy Jo Phelps, 91 of Friona, formerly of Muleshoe passed away March 19, 2025 in Friona. Celebration of Life Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday March 24, 2025 in the Bailey County Cemetery in Muleshoe with Jeff Procter, officiating. Arrangements entrusted to HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.
Nancy Jo was born November 26, 1933, in Throckmorton, Texas to Robert W. (Dub) Beaty and Valene (Hibbitts) Beaty. She attended school in Throckmorton where she graduated and later went to Texas Technological College in Lubbock, where she received her LPN nursing degree.
She married Donald Monroe Phelps on March 17, 1956 in Crosbyton and made their home in Carlsbad, New Mexico, along with Nancy's daughter, Danielle. Later they lived in areas around Muleshoe, including Friona, Bovina and Muleshoe. Nancy and Donald had three sons: David Garth Phelps, Robert Monroe Phelps and Donald Lansing Phelps.
Nancy had various jobs which included working for the Friona Police Dept. and also kept children in her home for several years. She loved reading her Bible and Christian devotional books. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Muleshoe, was a homemaker and enjoyed doing for her family, and had many hobbies, which include reading, working word puzzles and writing letters to family and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Dub and Valene, husband Donald, 3 sons- David Garth, Robert Monroe and Donald Lansing and also her son-in-law James D. Smith.
Those to mourn her passing include 1 daughter-Danielle Smith of Ft. Worth, TX, a daughter-in-law-Susan Phelps of Anthony, Kansas, 3 brothers-in-law- Kenneth Phelps & Marilyn of Largo, Florida, Samuel Phelps & Roberta of Frederick, OK, Phil Phelps & Cathy of Ft. Worth, 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, along with a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. She is also survived by a special couple, Rocky and Vivian Menning of Muleshoe and their family.
