Obituary

Roger Nelson, 69, longtime Friona resident, passed away April 1, 2018 in Lubbock. Celebration of Life Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Friona United Methodist Church in Friona with Rev. Archie Echols of Lubbock, officiating. Burial following in the Friona Cemetery by Hansard Family Funeral Home of Friona.

Roger was born April 14, 1948 in Clovis, N.M. to Jack Allen and Iola Mae Rucker Nelson. He later graduated from Friona High School, and then Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Mechanized Agriculture.

Roger married Lynn Wilson August 4, 1984 in Friona. For many years Roger owned Nelson Custom Harvesting. For decades was flag chairman for the Friona Lions Club and the flags flying in Friona this week will be in his honor.

Roger was a proud member of the Friona United Methodist Church where he served as board member and head usher for many years. He also served on the boards of the Friona United Way and Friona Credit Union. He was a member of the South Plains Antique Tractor Association of Amarillo and Lubbock and the Mustang Club of Amarillo and Lubbock. He was a collector of model tractors, loved to travel and snow ski. He was a friend to all.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Those to carry on his legacy include his wife-Lynn of Friona, 1 daughter-Kristin Bailey and husband Cody of Cedar Park, Texas, 1 brother-Rex Nelson and wife Marlys of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and 2 granddaughters- Kendyll Bailey and Camryn Bailey.
