Syble Smith was born on March 7, 1919 in Deaf Smith County, Texas to Lewis Allen and Mary Elizabeth (Miller) Smith. She married Oscar T. Hewitt on Aught 9, 1939 in Raton, New Mexico, he preceded her in death on June 23, 1973. Syble received a teachers certificate from West Texas Teachers College, then taught school in Plemons, Texas and South Plains Independent School District for 20 years. After retiring from teaching, Syble, owned and operated the Splatter Shack in Friona, Texas, from 1975-1985. Syble was a very busy person all of her life, she helped her husband farm, was a master gardener and sold angel food cakes. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Friona, TX. Syble was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two sisters, Sarah Poe and Ella Weeter.
